The passion for motorcycling is rooted in my family’s history: Back those days my father learned how to drive his motorcycle when he did his military service. Since then he even found his route round Australia in the 1970s with a Honda 450. The only thing that could stop him was the birth of my brother and me – and my very stubborn mother, who probably was the only human being that could convince him to change his beloved Kawasaki 900 for a red VW Golf. Now, nearly 40 years later, I will supplement the motorcycle-travel-map of my family with a route through some more countries that have not been traversed by us yet.

How to plan your route I don’t want to write an instruction on how to plan your route for a RTW-trip because the planning in my opinion starts with your own points of interest. Of course you have to take in consideration the seasons, passableness of roads and other external influences. But anyone who goes for an extensive journey will have individual must-visit-places. Roughly said for me it were two regions I took mainly in consideration because I wanted to hit them on the right time: Kyrgyzstan and the Himalayan region in August/September and south of Chile and Argentina in January. Everything in between added up to my route for the present that perhaps needs to be knocked down a few times while driving.
