VQ35DE, VQ25HR, VQ35HR, and VQ37VHR have all been used in the V35 and V36 Skylines as naturally aspirated engines, and all have high compression ratios in their naturally aspirated states. VQ35DE: 10.3:1 VQ25HR: 10.3:1 VQ35HR: 10.6:1 VQ37VHR: 11.0:1 A compression ratio approaching that of 10:1 is dangerous for turbo boosting and produces unstable engines prone to detonation.

Pokemon Hack Misty Romo here. So these engines need to be converted to low compression ratios, preferably 8:1, before applying turbo boost. However, there are an array of turbo boosted VQs and even a twin turbo VG engine that were factory turbo boosted and specially built for forced induction turbo application. But they were used for other Nissan models and not the Skyline, except the VQ30DETT used in the JGTC R34 Skyline GTR. References for previous couple of posts. If you have media showcasing a nice Time Attack Run with your converted GTR'esque' G37, feel free to share it with the thread. However, I would argue that applying various racing upgrades and modifications, and then upgrading your engine to GTR specification, essentially building a Gran Turismo Racer spec car, but then not calling it what it is, is rather contradictory. The engine's formula going from a VQ37VHR to now being a VQ37VHRTT, which would be a GTR spec engine thus making the car a G37 Skyline GTR, specifically a Time Attack Skyline GTR.
The G37 also has the same electronic fuel injection and Dual Over Head Cams (DOHC) that are indicated as 'E' and 'D' in the RB26DETT engine formula for R Skyline GTR's. So the VQ's formula can also be written similar to the RB's in that both are using DOHC's and MPFI electronic fuel injection, therefore to represent this in the engine formula in addition to its VHR technology it would be VQ37DE-VHR, and with addition of twin turbo, VQ37DE-VHR-TT. The G37's VQ actually has an advantage over the RB in that it has Variable Valve Event and Lift (VVEL) technology combined with Continuous Variable Valve Timing Control (CVTC) technology. Both are included under the umbrella term of VVT, or Variable Valve Timing technologies.
